It was sunny. It was a potluck. It was outside, in a national park.The Ringmistress and I, Tiny Geek were all wearing Converse® shoes. We planned it around an eco-friendly theme: the party favours were made out of clay and flower seeds, the decorations from old magazines, a guitar was used to point towards the festivities. 130 of our favourite people joined us: family from all over the country, close friends and acquaintances. Kids played on hiking trails. At night, we built a camp fire. Our friend Bill roasted home made sausages. From all the guests, only a handful were going to camp out the night with us. A park ranger made a few stops, asking if we could turn the music down. Sara and I went to bed, exhausted, and elated. We kissed each other good night, and we slept a sound sleep… without the kids. The day after, the remaining guests were treated to a gargantuesque breakfast prepared by my new wife’s family – thank you.
It was September 10, 2011. The day I married the only woman I have ever truly loved.

I think that when we stop celebrating the marriage, it might begin to turn ordinary. Plus, I like having parties. So we invited people over, and had paper lanterns in the yard, and ate the top layer of the wedding cake that we actually saved for a year even though people think that’s a stupid tradition that no one does anymore. And our friends gave us a year’s supply of toilet paper as an anniversary gift.
