I am a one post a day type of guy. That’s just how I am. I also change my undies daily. It’s these little quirks that make me special.
I’ve just read that The Muppets’ “Man or Muppet” won the Oscar for Best Song. And in my little book of important stuff, I’ve written down: If the Muppets ever win an Oscar for Man or Muppet, write a blog post about it.
Why am I so excited about this? Quite frankly, I don’t really care about the Oscars, nor about The Muppets… At least I didn’t before watching The Muppets a few weeks back. You see, The Muppets are not a big deal among the French community in Montreal. We have our own weird kid shows [ring me if you'd like a few titles...]. I watched the movie reluctantly, with my wife, and I laughed my ass off. Literally, I laughed out loud. And since then, I’ve been singing Man or Muppet everywhere I go – when I take a shower, to my kids, in my sleep. I’ve bumped into you? You’ve heard me sing it.
Kermit and co., congrats f*ckers. You made me a [very manly] muppet of a man.
“If I’m a muppet, then I’m a very manly muppet
Am I a muppet or am I a man?
If I’m a man that makes me a muppet of a man.”

The Muppets are awesome, and not just for kids–The Muppet Show aired in primetime. Also, the songs for The Muppets were written by Brett from Flight of the Conchords, and they have a lot of good songs. So there’s today’s lesson. Check in tomorrow for the next installment, “Knowing Your Telletubbies”.
Posted by Brent Waggoner | February 27, 2012, 13:28I am humbled by your knowledge, Muppet Master.
Posted by clownonfire | February 27, 2012, 13:29I’m a Muppets gal from way back and while it was lovely, the Jason Segal movie pales in comparison to earlier Muppet movies that had Henson at the helm. If you loved this one, I highly recommend the Muppets Take Manhattan. Kermit gets amnesia and becomes an accountant and they have to figure out how to produce their hit Broadway show without him.
Les Muppets est tres bon.
My French sucks.
Posted by CJack | February 27, 2012, 14:16Noted. I’ll take it as my introduction to Les Muppets and will
rentdownload The Muppets Take Manhattan.I still stand behind “Man or Muppet” as the greatest song ever recorded, though.
Posted by clownonfire | February 27, 2012, 14:19It is a pretty sweet song! Fun fact: The human version of Walter is played by Jim Parsons (Sheldon) from The Big Bang Theory who’s nemesis is Wil Wheaton who played Wesley Crusher on Start Trek: The Next Generation who’s mother, Beverly Crusher, played by Gates McFadden who was in Muppets Take Manhattan.
Muppet full circle.
Posted by CJack | February 27, 2012, 14:32Start Trek? Ugh…you know what I meant.
Posted by CJack | February 27, 2012, 14:34Of course, that show with Seven of Nine, right?
And by no means is this a shameless reference to that other blog I posted today…
Posted by clownonfire | February 27, 2012, 14:39Seven of nine? *sigh* I wonder what a perfect nine-out-of-nine on her planet looks like!
Posted by HoaiPhai | March 15, 2012, 09:48Like my wife.
I’m sorry. I had to.
First thing that came into my mind.
Now she’ll beat me up for it.
I’m done.

Posted by clownonfire | March 15, 2012, 09:49Muppets Take Manhattan is great, but for my money, The Muppet Movie is the best.
Posted by Brent Waggoner | February 27, 2012, 16:03I just don’t know who to believe… Brent, I’ve known you as long as I have been on Facebook, which makes us brothers. Caitlin, you’ve taken a picture with LaForge, which in itself gives you more credibility than Brent ever had…
Posted by clownonfire | February 27, 2012, 16:16It was the first….and it did have Rainbow Connection and Can You Picture That?…Me thinks I need to go home and Netflix it actually. I pretty much love all 70′s-80′s Muppet shenanigans the most.
Posted by CJack | February 27, 2012, 16:28I HEART the Muppets. And that song (and the Jim Parsons cameo) best part of the movie, hands down!
Posted by SummerSolsticeGirl | February 27, 2012, 14:17I’m telling you… As kids in French Quebec, we were bombarded with uber-dramatic Japanese animations (Albator, Candy and Demetan), and had little time for The Muppets… No wonder we all ended up loving Woody Allen as soon as we hit puberty. ALL OF US. There’s not one single French Montrealer who didn’t grow up loving Woody Allen.
Posted by clownonfire | February 27, 2012, 14:26The Muppets was always a favourite in my house as a child, even in Scotland. Saturday nights with PIgs In Space!. Anyway, moving onto the song, I saw this during my research for my Oscar series of blogs and loved it the first time I heard it. Very clever and the video was great too. Jason Segal is hit or miss for me and though I have yet to see the movie, I hope that he puts in as good a performance as did for his voiceover on Despicable Me as Vector.
All that said, I think the Oscar was a cert, there WERE only two nominations and no-one has heard of the other one, lol
Posted by Dale Smurthwaite | February 27, 2012, 14:33We don’t watch the Oscars here either. I stopped watching them when I stopped drinking, I think it says a great deal.
As for Jason Segal, I agree with you… Although Jason Segal and Paul Rudd slappin’ da bass…
Posted by clownonfire | February 27, 2012, 14:46I am so happy “Man or Muppet” won! I sang that song for weeks after I saw the movie.
Posted by Sarah Hamze | February 27, 2012, 16:06It’s ridiculously addictive. If my wife and I would have another wedding tomorrow, it would be the first song we would dance to as newlyweds.
Posted by clownonfire | February 27, 2012, 16:10Thats awesome! I might have to steal your idea and do that for my wedding someday!
Posted by Sarah Hamze | February 27, 2012, 17:05Um. NO IT WOULDN’T.

Posted by clownonfire | February 27, 2012, 18:16I woke up oscar morning with Man or Muppet stuck in my head again, as it has been for the last couple months since seeing the movie. I am definitely a muppet sort of girl, but that song in particular is a work of genius.
I exploded in a flurry of social media appreciation when it got the oscar. Brilliant.
Posted by ColonialPunk | February 28, 2012, 16:10It has brought many hours of joy in this house. Now if we could use it to help our daughter fall asleep…
